At MP3tunes we decided to build a Pandora-like system that won't get crushed by labels and also didn't have the nagging limitations of web radio like
no rewind button, limited song skipping, no song look ahead, etc. We call this service PiMP and --similar to
services like Slacker and Last.fm-- we let users select an artist, genre or source song to select music they are interested in hearing.

But Lockersynch does not work properly with itunes (no playlist support and can't download multi-GIG music libs) so this is unlikely to get much uptake.

Actually, playlist support for iTunes has been added to LockerSync recently. If you have iTunes set as your default music manager and you are syncing up via a
method other than "Add Music by Directory" then it should pull in your iTunes playlists. If you have problems getting it to work on your machine
maybe start a thread in the MP3tunes forums or open a support ticket and someone can help you out.
LockerSync also supports multi-gig music collections. We recently tested syncing up (and down) a 33 GB music collection and it worked with no problems. Customers have written to us saying things like: "I lost my hard drive and was able to restore my 85 GB music collection. You guys really saved the day. Thanks!" If you need help with your specific issue maybe try one of the help methods previously mentioned.

Michael, I have to say, after following and supporting so many of your projects, that you don't seem to have the ability to sustain anything. You get fired
up about something, get it really rolling, then lose interest and move on to something else, while the previous project fizzles and dies. The huge collection
of mp3 files, gone. Lindows (which I supported to the tune of $100), Linspire and CNR, gone to Xandros. Gizmo, driving away its customers and losing to Skype.
Music lockers under siege. Now PiMP? Who else would be brazen (and dumb?) enough to use such a name? The negative connotations will kill it before it gets out
of the gate.
Don't get me wrong. I believe in the principles you espouse and am glad you're out there pursuing them. Maybe they're more crusades than businesses, so long term survival isn't possible. In any case, my money stays in my wallet from now on. I wish you the best of luck with changing the world, though. |
