This service doesn't have the portability that I, and I expect a lot of others require. I buy music and I play it on whatever hardware I have, when I want. If the service can't meet that need then I don't want to know. Mind you, the Lala front page seems to be offering more than what MR posted about. It's written "Share music with your friends" and "Get MP3s for your iPod". Can't say I'm bothered about sharing with friends but getting mp3s at 10cents a pop is interesting! http://www.planstoprosper.org.uk

If they decide that you're using too much bandwidth, you're out of your collection until they re-instate your account. If they fold, you lose your money and music. Think about it. Microsoft and MLB have effectively screwed over their customers because they felt like it. Have you heard about this in the major news outlets? Probably not. Who cares about the consumer, right? What can they do to major companies?

I use to use Pandora, but now all I use is lala. I even stopped using my ipod at work and at home. I still need my ipod for road trips and working out though. Lala is great to check out new bands, listen to whole albums before you add them to your collection, buy mp3's, and see what your friends in lala have been listening to. I also like having my music stored on their servers. I can access all of my music from any computer that has a internet connection. There is always the possibility that lala won't make it. If that happens you can just buy and download the mp3's that you don't own. Because lala lets you upload all of the music that you already own to their servers you don't have to buy that music again to listen to it on their site. Since lala only charges you 10 cents to add a song to your collection on their server and 79 cents to download an mp3 after you add a song to your collection you are still saving money by using lala rather than purchasing music from amazon, itunes and wallmart. If you just want to download a track without adding it to your collection then it's 89 cents. Lala isn't for everyone though. It's great for people who like to download music and it's even better for people who listen to music on their computer. I hook up my laptop to my stereo at home and listen music on lala.com all the time. That way I don't have to buy and download any mp3's. I only buy mp3's that I want to put on my ipod for my road trips or working out. I think lala is going to do well in the online music industry. As more devices are coming with features such as wifi and browsers more of these devices will be able to access your entire music library with out having to haul all your music around with you. Jon

This site could go out of business tomorrow and it wouldn't matter. $.89 seems pretty reasonable for a non-DRM MP3 song file. Robertson's post seemed to imply you didn't have the option for MP3's, you certainly do for most of the tracks. John
